EMS
E-Pulsive offers 20-minute personal training sessions that harness the power of Electrical Muscle Stimulation, or EMS for short. It’s an efficient way to work out without having to spend hours a week in the gym. We work closely with every client to help them achieve their target fitness level and body shape in the shortest time possible.
The origins
EMS was originally used as a staple in physical therapy to help loosen tight muscles, with therapists using localised conduction pads to work on a specific area. Today, our innovative training concept takes these benefits and applies them to the whole body, creating an effective workout that also has the ability to address any muscle tensions or imbalances for an overall better form.
The science
EMS works by sending low-frequency electric impulses to manually contract your muscle fibres while you exercise, increasing the intensity of your workout. As well as muscle toning, EMS training has the potential to help with weight loss, fat burning, skin tightening and increased energy levels. It is a form of low-impact, high-intensity training that has built up a loyal following among the athletic community.
The workout
At the start of a session, your trainer will help you put on the EMS suit and the electric impulse will be weak and hardly noticeable. Throughout the 20-minute workout, you will experience a four-second contraction of the muscles, followed by a four-second relaxation, and the trainer will adjust the strength level according to your tolerance using a control pad. They will demonstrate a series of exercises for you to follow, tailored to your individual training goals (such as squats, lunges and planks) and be on hand to check your alignment and correct your movements where necessary.
The results
Scientific studies have shown the following result over a 12-week period with E-Pulsive: up to 98% of all muscles engaged during a workout, a 9% reduction in body fat and 4kg (9lb) weight loss, a 30% increase in strength and 89% of people felt substantially stronger and fitter*.
*Results may vary from person to person depending on additional lifestyle factors.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
EMS is short for Electrical Muscle Stimulation. EMS training is a full-body workout that targets multiple muscle groups simultaneously, and while a traditional workout uses about 50% of your muscles, with EMS you can engage up to 98%. As a result, EMS is renowned for being a time efficient way to exercise – a 20-minute EMS session can be the equivalent of a conventional 90-minute gym session.
-
Yes, you can. EMS works well with activities such as yoga and Pilates, as well as any type of cardio. High-intensity training, for example lifting heavy weights, is another complimentary activity, but should be avoided during the recovery phase, typically 24 to 48 hours after a session.
-
Yes, EMS is safe – it is a well-researched technology that has been established for many years and sessions always take place with a knowledgeable and experienced trainer. During a session, the electrical current stimulates your muscles and feels more like a vibration.
-
For optimum results, we recommend one E-Pulsive workout a week, in addition to your regular exercise routine, or two to three a week if you don’t have time for conventional workouts. Combined with a healthy lifestyle, changes can be seen after four sessions. Scientific studies have shown the following results over a 12-week period: 9% body fat loss, 30% increase in strength and 89% of people felt stronger and fitter.

Yes, it is suitable for all fitness levels, as intensity and programs are customised.
BENEFITS OF EMS TRAINING
Engage up to 98% of muscles, burn 500kcal, and target all areas with low-impact exercises. Experience personalised training sessions crafted to your own needs, guiding you towards peak fitness efficiently.
Weight loss
The number of calories your body requires each day is largely determined by your metabolism and how much activity you do. With age, our metabolic rate slows down, and we gain fat more easily – but studies show our cardio workout can increase your metabolism by building lean muscle, so that your body burns an additional 300-500kcal per day.
Toned Muscles
The highly personalised nature of an E-Pulsive workout means that, depending on your goals, you can either gain muscle mass to appear stronger or reduce your overall size to achieve a toned silhouette. Hand weights and TRX bands can be added to the workout to increase its intensity.
Rehabilitation
If you’re suffering from back or knee pain and have been unable to do conventional workouts, EMS training can help you treat existing issues, build strength and prevent future injuries. Your trainer will guide you through simple movements to ensure minimal impact on your joints.
